Scott M. Gubin E.A.
A graduate of the University of Illinois, Springfield, Scott M. Gubin has extensive experience in the accounting field. Scott has worked in both corporate and governmental accounting positions. In 1982 he opened his own accounting practice and worked independently until 1992, when he entered into a partnership with Patrice Powers.
Despite his busy schedule, Scott spent a year teaching accounting courses at Lincoln Land Community College. He has assisted the Springfield Board of Jewish Education and the Dana-Thomas House Foundation in financial and tax matters and also served on several past boards and committees. Some of these positions include:
Treasurer and founding board member of the Child Advocacy Center, 2 years
Treasurer and board member of Springfield Air Rendezvous, 10 years. Currently an honoree board member.
Treasurer and board member of Helping Hands Shelter of Springfield, 3 years
Scott's commitment to both his clients and the community are very important to him and he takes pride in being able to meet with clients face-to-face, offering personal, individualized service.
Scott obtained his Enrolled Agent designation in November 2012, and has been admitted to practice before the Internal Revenue Service. The Enrolled Agent exam is over seen by the Internal Revenue Service and the candidates must obtain passing scores on a 3 part test and meet continuing educations requirements each year.
Patrice Powers CPA
Patrice was born and raised in Springfield, Illinois. She graduated from Illinois State University with majors in both Accounting and Business Administration.
Her career has always been in public accounting firms in Springfield, first, with an independent accountant, and then with a small CPA firm. By 1987 she had branched out on her own. Patrice entered into a partnership in 1992 with another independent accountant, Scott M. Gubin, that became Gubin & Powers Accounting and then Gubin & Powers Inc. in 1999.
Patrice became a licensed Certified Public Accountant in 1987. To gain further knowledge and to provide more help and services to her clients, she became a licensed Certified Financial Planner in 1992.
Currently, Patrice is a member of the Illinois CPA society. She has participated in Big Brothers Big Sisters and served as a board member for Habitat for Humanity.
